As Friends we hope and expect God is still speaking to us, still giving us guidance.\u00a0 We seek to create and support communities where Friends\u2019 testimonies of peace, equality, simplicity, integrity and community can flourish. It is our hope and responsibility to create a world of social, economic, racial and gender justice.<\/p>\n<p>Our worship is a bit unusual even for a Quaker Meeting or Church.\u00a0 We have a good deal of quiet, waiting worship in which we gather in silence.\u00a0 People speak out of that silence if and when they feel led to speak.\u00a0 We regularly begin with a singing of hymns suggested by those present, we have a call for joys and concerns, a youth story, and a prepared message given usually by a member of the Meeting.\u00a0 More waiting worship follows the message.\u00a0\u00a0Our worship is open to all.<\/p>\n<p>We have been worshipping together here since 1775, but many of us have only recently arrived.\u00a0 We are seekers after the truth.\u00a0 We have no creed or official set of &#8220;truths&#8221; we expect everyone to believe.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.durhamme.com\/about-us\/pages\/durham-friends-meeting-house\">The Durham (ME) town website has a brief history of Durham Friends Meeting.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We are a member of <a href=\"https:\/\/neym.org\/\">New England Yearly Meeting<\/a>, which in turn is jointly affiliated with both\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fgcquaker.org\/\">Friends General Conference<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/friendsunitedmeeting.org\/\">Friends United Meeting<\/a>.\u00a0 Quakers around the world stay in relationship with one another through <a href=\"http:\/\/fwcc.world\/\">Friends World Committee for Consultation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UWvkxMretAM?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Maps of the <a href=\"http:\/\/curtislibrary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Jones-Lunt-Cemeteries-searchable.pdf\">Jones and Lunt Cemeteries<\/a> maintained by Durham Friends Meeting, 2004.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Durham Friends Meeting Durham Friends Meeting is a welcoming faith based community rooted in the\u00a0principles of the Religious Society of Friends, the Quakers.
