{"id":2694,"date":"2019-08-31T16:02:05","date_gmt":"2019-08-31T21:02:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.durhamfriendsmeeting.org\/?p=2694"},"modified":"2019-09-02T10:59:49","modified_gmt":"2019-09-02T15:59:49","slug":"durham-meeting-makes-donation-to-the-make-shift-coffee-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.durhamfriendsmeeting.org\/?p=2694","title":{"rendered":"Durham Meeting Makes Donation to the Make Shift Coffee House"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.durhamfriendsmeeting.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Makeshift1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2695\" width=\"331\" height=\"248\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.durhamfriendsmeeting.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Makeshift1.png 360w, https:\/\/www.durhamfriendsmeeting.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Makeshift1-300x225.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 331px) 100vw, 331px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>At the June Monthly Meeting for Business, Durham Friends approved a $2,000 donation to the Make Shift Coffee House, founded and run by Durham Friends member Craig Freshley.\u00a0 Craig began the Make Shift Coffee House gatherings about six years ago, during a time of great disagreement and friction in regard to Muslim immigrants.\u00a0 The coffee house format was developed to encourage civil discourse and discussion about issues that were highly emotional, bringing together people of different perspectives and persuasions.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.durhamfriendsmeeting.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Makeshift2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2696\" width=\"427\" height=\"238\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.durhamfriendsmeeting.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Makeshift2.png 518w, https:\/\/www.durhamfriendsmeeting.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Makeshift2-300x167.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 427px) 100vw, 427px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The\npurpose of Make Shift Coffee House is to promote understanding of different\npolitical views while relaxing with light music in a coffee house\natmosphere.&nbsp; It\u2019s a face-to-face place\nfor respectful conversation.&nbsp; It\u2019s not a\ndebate, and there\u2019s no persuasion.
