{"id":2836,"date":"2019-12-18T10:15:17","date_gmt":"2019-12-18T15:15:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.durhamfriendsmeeting.org\/?p=2836"},"modified":"2019-12-18T10:15:51","modified_gmt":"2019-12-18T15:15:51","slug":"durham-monthly-meeting-december-15-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.durhamfriendsmeeting.org\/?p=2836","title":{"rendered":"Durham Monthly Meeting Minutes, December 15, 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Durham Monthly Meeting of Friends convened for the conduct of business on Sunday, December 15, 2019 with 13 people present.\u00a0 In the absence of Clerk Susan Rice, we approved the appointment of Sarah Sprogell to serve as clerk.\u00a0 Sarah opened the meeting by reading a quote from Caroline Stephen from <em>Light Arising<\/em>, published in 1908.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1.  The November minutes were approved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Ministry and Counsel: &nbsp;it was sadly reported that, after a brief\nillness, Clarabel Marstaller died peacefully on December 2<sup>nd<\/sup>,\n2019.&nbsp; Dorothy and Edwin Hinshaw who had\nserved with the Marstallers in New England Yearly Meeting many years were\napproved to work with Ministry and Counsel regarding a memorial minute for\nClarabel Marstaller. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Martha Hinshaw Sheldon shared a list of\nspeakers in meeting for worship for the next few weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; An\nupdated proposal for a Meeting Care Coordinator was presented. &nbsp;It was\nsuggested that a search committee be made up of representatives from four\ncommittees: Peace and Social Concerns, Christian Education, Ministry and\nCounsel, and Communications, plus the Clerk, Susan Rice.&nbsp; Ministry and Counsel\nwill ensure the formation of the committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3.&nbsp; The meeting\napproved hiring a Meeting Care Coordinator as well as the formation of the\nsearch committee, which will limit its search to the New England\narea.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4.&nbsp; Finance\ncommittee: Sarah Sprogell presented the budget for 2020 and it is attached\nto these minutes.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5. Peace and Social Concerns Committee: \u00a0\u00a0Ingrid Chalufour reported that a new temporary group (Footprint Subcommittee) has formed to propose ways the carbon footprint of the meetinghouse can be lowered.\u00a0 The group is made up of representatives from three committees: Sarah Sprogell (Finance), Robert Eaton (Trustees), Ingrid Chalufour (Peace and Social Concerns), and Kim Bolshaw, custodian.\u00a0 They are researching a variety of ideas and proposals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6.&nbsp; Christian\nEducation and Youth Minister: &nbsp;Wendy\nSchlotterbeck reported that about 7 people from Durham and Portland meetings\nare interested in Godly Play training, tentatively planned for the weekend of\nApril 3-5 at Durham Meeting.&nbsp; Others from\nNew England Yearly Meeting are invited at the cost of $150 per person.&nbsp; Melinda Wenner Bradley, Director of\nCommunications and Training (Faith and Play Stories, Inc., Godly Play Trainer)\ncan offer the training.&nbsp; The Quaker\nversion of Godly Play is Faith and Play.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Wendy\nSchlotterbeck staffed the Junior High retreat at Woolman Hill the weekend of\nDecember 6-8.&nbsp; A Young Friends retreat\nwas also held the same weekend in Providence, RI.&nbsp; Three young friends from Durham meeting\nattended retreats that weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The\nChristmas event on December 20<sup>th<\/sup> will include a labyrinth in the\nparking lot, soup, cider, cookies, carols and campfire, 4:30-7pm.&nbsp; Parking will be across the street.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7.&nbsp;
