Here are some of the suggestions she made:  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dear Friends,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was a joy to be with you&nbsp;yesterday&nbsp;in worship and to talk about Friends\u2019 advocacy and FCNL. I wanted to follow up and send the links I shared in the chat, as well as more information on some of the areas that came up.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fcnl.org\/resources\/lobby-congress-home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Resources and support for lobbying virtually<\/strong><\/a>: Here\u2019s where you\u2019ll find written guides as well as links to our regular in-person training, \u201cLearn to Lobby in 30 Minutes\u201d (the next one is&nbsp;February 2) and ways to contact FCNL\u2019s organizers with specific questions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Connecting Durham Friends to FCNL<\/strong>: In addition to FCNL\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fcnl.org\/email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">action alert email list<\/a>, I put out a monthly newsletter specifically addressed to Quakers.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fcnl.org\/act\/quakers-action\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">You can sign up on our website here<\/a>. The email list is open to everyone, not just a person officially designated as a contact with your meeting.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Federal Native American advocacy resources<\/strong>: An&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fcnl.org\/issues\/native-americans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">overview of FCNL\u2019s focus<\/a>&nbsp;is on our website. There\u2019s also more on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fcnl.org\/updates\/2019-11\/working-native-americans-bend-arc-history-justice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the history of FCNL\u2019s Native American advocacy program<\/a>. If you don\u2019t receive it already, I highly recommend subscribing to the monthly&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fcnl.org\/email\/nalu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Native American Legislative Update email<\/a>&nbsp;for regular updates.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Other topics that we discussed:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fcnl.org\/updates\/2020-10\/electoral-college-should-be-abolished\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Electoral College Should Be Abolished<\/a>\u201d (FCNL statement). Also&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fcnl.org\/updates\/2020-05\/dont-get-rid-faithless-electors-get-rid-electoral-college\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a response to the May 2020 Supreme Court case on \u201cfaithless electors,\u201d<\/a>&nbsp;which included one of FCNL\u2019s General Committee members.&nbsp;<\/li><li>In President Biden\u2019s first 100 days, FCNL recommends several actions related to the United Nations and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fcnl.org\/updates\/2021-01\/first-100-days-fcnls-recommendations-biden-administration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">restoring U.S. partnerships with the global community<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li><li>I mentioned a project related to dismantling militarism (as well as racism) in U.S. foreign policy, led by FCNL\u2019s Diana Ohlbaum and Salih Booker of the Center for International Policy. The project is in a consulting phase right now, so we don\u2019t have info publicly available. I\u2019m sure we will share more soon. It\u2019s an exciting effort to support a movement to address the structural and worldview challenges that often prevent peace and justice policy from moving forward.&nbsp;<\/li><li>The E. Raymond Wilson quote I shared is from his acceptance letter for the FCNL Executive Secretary position in November, 1943: \u201cWe ought to be willing to work for causes which will not be won now, but cannot be won in the future unless the goals are staked out now and worked for energetically over a period of time.\u201d For a bit more about FCNL\u2019s history,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=NdlY8ZG5dck&amp;feature=emb_title&amp;ab_channel=FCNL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;the first few minutes of this video from our 75th anniversary<\/a>&nbsp;is worth your time.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Thank you again for welcoming me, and if you have further questions or would like more information on a specific aspect of FCNL\u2019s work, please let me know!
