{"id":5873,"date":"2023-04-20T12:12:07","date_gmt":"2023-04-20T16:12:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.durhamfriendsmeeting.org\/?p=5873"},"modified":"2023-04-21T14:34:46","modified_gmt":"2023-04-21T18:34:46","slug":"george-lakey-events-in-maine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.durhamfriendsmeeting.org\/?p=5873","title":{"rendered":"George Lakey Events in Maine"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>&#8220;George Russell Lakey&nbsp;(born November 2, 1937) is an activist,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sociologist\">sociologist<\/a>, and writer who added academic underpinning to the concept of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nonviolent_revolution\">nonviolent revolution<\/a>.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/George_Lakey#cite_note-1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup>&nbsp;He also refined the practice of experiential training for activists which he calls &#8220;Direct Education&#8221;.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/George_Lakey#cite_note-2\">[2]<\/a><\/sup>&nbsp;A&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Quaker\">Quaker<\/a>, he has co-founded and led numerous organizations and campaigns for justice and peace.&#8221;  That is from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/George_Lakey\">George Lakey&#8217;s wikipedia page<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>George will be making a number of appearances in Maine over the next few weeks, including a session at the All-Maine Quaker Gathering on May 6 in South China.
