{"id":6217,"date":"2023-08-06T17:27:04","date_gmt":"2023-08-06T21:27:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.durhamfriendsmeeting.org\/?p=6217"},"modified":"2023-08-06T17:27:07","modified_gmt":"2023-08-06T21:27:07","slug":"isaiah-58-6-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.durhamfriendsmeeting.org\/?p=6217","title":{"rendered":"Isaiah 58: 6-12"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>At Durham Friends Meeting on August 6, 2023, Renee Cote, co-clerk of Ministry and Counsel, read Isaiah 58:6-12, the theme of this year&#8217;s New England Yearly Meeting annual sessions, August  5-9, 2023.  &#8220;Like a Watered Garden: Open to Grace, Loose the Bonds of Injustice.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Isaiah 58:6-12 (New International Version)<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>6&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cIs not this the kind of fasting&nbsp;I have chosen:<br>to loose the chains of injustice<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and untie the cords of the yoke,<br>to set the oppressed&nbsp;free<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and break every yoke?<br><sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup>Is it not to share your food with the hungry<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter\u2014<br>when you see the naked, to clothe&nbsp;them,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?<br><sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>Then your light will break forth like the dawn,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and your healing&nbsp;will quickly appear;<br>then your righteousness<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah%2058%3A6-12&amp;version=NIV#fen-NIV-18795a\">a<\/a>]<\/sup>&nbsp;will go before you,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and the glory of the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;will be your rear guard.<br><sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>Then you will call,&nbsp;and the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;will answer;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf you do away with the yoke of oppression,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;with the pointing finger&nbsp;and malicious talk,<br><sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,<br>then your light&nbsp;will rise in the darkness,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and your night will become like the noonday.<br><sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>The&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;will guide&nbsp;you always;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;he will satisfy your needs&nbsp;in a sun-scorched land<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and will strengthen&nbsp;your frame.<br>You will be like a well-watered garden,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;like a spring&nbsp;whose waters never fail.<br><sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and will raise up the age-old foundations;<br>you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At Durham Friends Meeting on August 6, 2023, Renee Cote, co-clerk of Ministry and Counsel, read Isaiah 58:6-12, the theme of this year&#8217;s New England Yearly Meeting annual sessions, August 5-9, 2023. &#8220;Like a Watered Garden: Open to Grace, Loose &hellip;
