Dear Sisters and Brothers in Velasco,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our prayers and love to you this third week of Advent. Tomorrow we would light the candle of Joy and remember the joy felt by the shepherds when the angels came to them with the amazing news. One of the last poems published by Wendell Berry (a favorite poet of mine) has these lines:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe sees the shepherds on their cold hill by night, \/ the sky flying suddenly open over their heads,\/the light of very heaven falling upon them, \/ the angels descending, slowly as snow, their singing \/ filling far and wide the dark. \u201cOn Earth \/ peace, good will.\u201d \u2026 He thinks of the distance, the hard hungry \/ journey of a pilgrim \u2026 \/ \u2026 towards the almost forgotten \/ light beyond the polluted river, the blasted mountain, \/ the killed children, the bombed village,\/ beyond and beyond is the shepherd-startling, ever staying light. .. \/ he sets out\u201d. May we, in these challenging times in Cuba and in Maine remember the shepherd\u2019s joy and journey together towards that light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Queridas hermanas y hermanos de Velasco,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nuestras oraciones y amor para ustedes en esta tercera semana de Adviento. Ma\u00f1ana estaremos encendiendo la vela de la Alegr\u00eda y recordando el gozo que sintieron los pastores cuando los \u00e1ngeles vinieron a ellos con la sorprendente noticia. Uno de los \u00faltimos poemas publicados por Wendell Berry (uno de mis poetas favoritos) tiene estas l\u00edneas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cVe a los pastores en su fr\u00eda colina por la noche, \/ el cielo volando repentinamente abierto sobre sus cabezas, \/ la luz del mismo cielo cayendo sobre ellos, \/ los \u00e1ngeles descendiendo, lentamente como la nieve, su canto \/ llenando a lo largo y ancho la oscuridad. . \u201cEn la Tierra \/ paz, buena voluntad\u201d. \u2026 Piensa en la distancia, el duro y hambriento \/ viaje de un peregrino\u2026 \/ \u2026 hacia la casi olvidada \/ luz m\u00e1s all\u00e1 del r\u00edo contaminado, la monta\u00f1a devastada, \/ los ni\u00f1os asesinados, la aldea bombardeada,\/ m\u00e1s all\u00e1 y m\u00e1s all\u00e1 est\u00e1 el pastor- sorprendente, siempre luz. .. \/ se pone en marcha\u201d. Que nosotros, en estos tiempos dif\u00edciles en Cuba y Maine, recordemos la alegr\u00eda del pastor y caminemos juntos hacia esa luz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
