Durham Monthly Meeting of Friends met for the conduct of business on Sunday, April 19, 2026, with nine people in attendance at the Meetinghouse and two by Zoom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
1. Meeting Opening<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Clerk, Nancy Marstaller, opened the meeting reading a psalm by Dwight Wilson:<\/p>\n\n\n\n 2. Approval of Minutes of March 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Meeting approved the minutes of the March meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 3. Letter from Southeastern Yearly Meeting (SYM) regarding Leslie Manning\u2019s visit.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/strong>Clerk read the letter from the co-Clerks of SYM. Please see attached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 4<\/strong>. <\/strong>Ministry and Counsel \u2014 Renee Cote<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/strong>Meeting expressed its great appreciation for Leslie\u2019s faithful and meaningful presence at SYM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meeting approved Susan Gilbert for membership in Durham Friends Meeting and the Religious Society of Friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Reminder that the first of two listening sessions will take place next Sunday, April 26th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The adult study sessions on Parker Palmer\u2019s \u201cHealing the Heart of Democracy\u201d will take place 2nd and 4th Sundays in May and June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 4a. State of Society Report study group <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/strong>The attached report was read aloud. One small change was recommended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meeting approved the State of Society Report. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n 5. Peace and Social Concerns \u2014 Ingrid Chalufour<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/strong>Please see report. From the overall report, specifically the report submitted to FCNL was read aloud. The movie \u201cEarth\u2019s Greatest Enemy\u201d by Abby Martin, was lifted up as something that P&SC should consider showing this fall. It will be available on YouTube and Apple TV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 6.<\/strong> Woman\u2019s Society Request \u2014 Dorothy Curtis<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Woman\u2019s Society requests permission to conduct the plant sale this year, beginning in May. Distribution of funds raised will be determined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meeting approved this request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 7. Falmouth Quarterly Meeting Representatives<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/strong>Tess Hartford and Joyce Gibson will attend as our Meeting’s representatives. Sarah Sprogell and Leslie Manning will be asked if they will be representatives, as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 8. Other Business<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The status of the Eileen Babcock estate was reviewed. Please see report. Meeting expressed its appreciation to Doug Bennett and Sarah Sprogell, who have worked consistently to bring this matter to closure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 9.<\/strong> Closing Worship<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/strong>Next meeting for business will be May 17th.
