History

Quakers (Friends) began worshipping together in Durham, Maine in 1775. The earliest Meetings for Worship were held in homes. Friends built their first Meetinghouse on our current site in 1790, and (after that one burned) another in 1800. The current (third) brick Meetinghouse was built in 1829. More than 250 years later, we are still gathering, still gathering strength from one another and seeking to build a beloved community. Below are some posts about the Meeting’s history
